The portable DIGITTRADE HIGH SECURITY HDD is currently the best solution to save data at a high standard of security and mobility.

Thanks to the full disk hardware encryption according to the 256 bit AES in ECB mode and the two-factor authentication, by smartcard and 8-digit PIN, the DIGITTRADE HIGH SECURITY HDD combines the benefits of mobile data media with highest security standards for data privacy.

The HDD offers with its features in combination with the HS Smartcard Management System a lot of solutions for single users, companies and public authorities.

1. Encryption
During transfer on the HDD, all data is stored in real-time by a 128 bit full disk encryption according to AES in ECB mode. The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is a symmetrical cryptographic system, approved by USA’s National Security Agency for top secret information. ECB mode encrypts all sectors with a specified AES key. Additionally to all stored data, even temporary files as well as areas that would normally not be noticed by encryption software will be encrypted

2. Authentication
The DIGITTRADE HIGH SECURITY HDD works
Factor 1 (Having): verifies, if the user has a smartcard with the correct AES key.
Factor 2 (Knowing): verifies, if the user knows the correct 8-digit PIN and consequently is authorized to use this smartcard.
Only after successful authentication the AES key used for encryption will be transferred to the encryption chip set and the user will have access to the data.

3. Smartcard
Serially the HDD is delivered with the smartcard Atmel CryptoMemory AT88SC0104C. This offers enough security in everyday life. For especially high security requirements the smartcard Oberthur Cosmo 64 v5.4 is optionally provided, certified by FIPS 140-2 level 3. These smartcards can be used either exclusively or in combination with the Atmel smartcards. In case of any manipulation the smartcard will be irrevocably destroyed and disabled.

4. AES Key
The AES key is stored in the smartcard and cannot be read out from enclosure or HDD in case of loss or theft. The construction of the HDD allows changing the AES keys as often as desired. For this purpose the new smartcards must be created with the adequate match key of the enclosure. New data will be saved with the new AES key after the quick formatting of the HDD. The access to old data will be only limited possible by data recovery and using the old AES key.

5. HS Smartcard Management System
The HS Smartcard Management System (HS SMS) is optionally provided. It allows:
• to generate AES keys
• to write new AES keys on new smartcards
• to manage smartcards, AES keys and users
• to write existing AES keys on a new smartcard#

6. Implemented HDD
The implemented 2.5” SATA HDD makes the mobile data safe small and handy. Thanks to data transfer and power supply using USB or FireWire and the hard ware encryption it is possible to use this storage medium independent of an operating system or platform.
G-Force Protection: robust solutions for modern mobility
This Technology prevents the HDD from head crash, the impact of the read-/write head on the data disk, if the HDD falls to the ground or is exposed to hard impacts. A sensor recognizes, if the HDD is in the free fall. Within 0.3 seconds the disk will take the heads off the data disk into parking position and switch off the power.

7. Supported Operating Systems
The HDDs are bootable and are independent of any operating system. This allows the users not only to store files and programs on the HDD, but also programs and complete operating systems.
